DVD
DVDs combine aspects of both traditional video and interactive CD-ROMs,
depending on your need. There are really two basic kinds of DVDs:
those that work on standard home theater systems and data DVDs that
only work on computers.
First, we can "copy" your existing video program to DVD
with little or no extra editing. You then take your archival program
and play it on any home DVD player. If we make the DVD from a VHS
tape it will look just as good (or bad). If we have access to a
master tape, though, the DVD copy will look much, much better. That's
reason enough to transfer old programs, but there's even more. Magnetic
tape of all types begins to disintegrate after a decade or so. Plastic
DVDs will last indefinitely, if cared for. Finally, storage space
is vastly reduced. 100 hours of high quality video can be held in
a 5-inch cubed box. These transfers play on home machines and computers.
If you rent home DVD movies you are familiar with another great
DVD feature. We can break up your DVD material into chapters and
make each chapter available on an opening menu. This gives you a
lot of the flexibility of interactive CD-ROMs, even with your older
programs. It takes a little longer to do so it costs a little more,
but it adds greatly to the usefulness and convenience of the product.
Another way to use DVDs is just to treat them as giant CD-ROMs.
Thus you can create interactive programs that use a lot more video
and that video can be in the highest resolution and shown full-screen
rather than in a box. These data DVDs can only be used on a computer
and not on home TV DVD players.
We can make your DVD and multiple copies right here at 15th &
Mass, sometimes the same day, depending on scheduling, for a very
reasonable price.
